Man Utd ‘ready to invest’ £38.5m to sign Cristian Romero

It isn't a secret. Manchester United will almost certainly sign a centre-back this summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no doubt identified his primary targets. Cristian Romero is one name that keeps coming up.

It isn't a secret. Manchester United will almost certainly sign a centre-back this summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no doubt identified his primary targets. Cristian Romero is one name that keeps coming up.

United is reportedly willing to spend £38.5 million (€45 million) to sign the 23-year-old. The selling club, on the other hand, is delaying its choice. Romero is presently in Argentina for the Copa America, and the Italians are hoping he has a good tournament so that his trade worth climbs even more.

Unfortunately, this means United will have to wait for Romero for the time being, which makes me question whether Solskjaer will start looking at other options first.

The last thing United needs is to wait for Atalanta to decide to keep Romero for another year, denying them the opportunity to sign a centre-back, which is a major necessity this summer.

I'm not going to sit here and say we have to sign Romero, though I do believe he'd be a better option than Solskjaer's existing options.

For the time being, United will have to wait whether this is the player they actually want.
